Gypsy Hit

Moon Over Buffalo opened four weeks ago and it’s been nothing short of delightful. It's that rare theater experience where the ensemble clicks and grows and treats each other respectfully, even when tensions are running high. I am grateful for the personalities I get to share a stage and greenroom with and am honored to be close to so much talent. The cast and crew have socialized in various groups and sets over the course of the run and every single gathering has been warm and entertaining - so much so that I'm losing way too much sleep and consuming way too many libations for my own good. This experience is a welcome reminder of just how satisfying theater can be. My mother, younger sister, and two of my younger brothers and their wives came from Utah to see this show. I was a bit nervous when anticipating their visit. I tend to get more nervous when someone I know is in the audience. But, for whatever reason I was not nervous as I peeked through the curtains and saw my family in the audience last Friday night. I couldn't have been happier to have them there and their response couldn't have been sweeter. I've actually prayed to be a part of a show that I would be excited to invite my mother to (our tastes do so contrary run that I've doubted it would ever happen) and that prayer seems to have been answered. I'm racking up an overwhelming number of unforgettable experiences as of late. I'm not sure why or what these experiences portend, but I feel I am suddenly standing heart deep in the middle of a fast moving stream and it is thrilling and disorienting.
Through one of my cast mates I've had the annoying pleasure of meeting a person whose finger has clear access to the switch of my tentative and ridiculous heart. I've opted to follow my intuition down the path of this attraction, but my head is not far behind and it is talking a blue streak of caution, "Look at the circumstances, you fool!" Of all my screwed up parts, my heart is most certainly the king. It’s the way I was made. When the Gods amuse themselves with me, it’s by poking at the bundle of putty, tears, and exposed nerves that is my anxious heart. I have absolutely no idea what the future holds, but the present is absolutely brimming with contradictions and disturbing coincidences. The one thing I can say is that no matter what happens this someone is undoubtedly one of sweetest people with which I've ever come in contact.
Last week I moved to my second crash pad on my tour of Denver guest rooms. Upon my arrival one of my hosts proclaimed, "There is only one house rule and that is that while you are here you are one of the family." I nearly cried. I have an abundance of family in my life these days. The cast, the amazing Denver community that has become my family over the past 15 years, my blood relatives, and my long time friend/new time roommate in Los Angeles.
I am bouncing from room to room, group to group, family to family and each time it’s as if I'm being hit over the head with a hammer of light. With each hit I am more stunned and transfixed by the luminous waves that ripple and ricochet outward into the darkening universe.
